Healthcare has been my lifelong passion. A graduate of the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center Nursing School and after over 30 years in healthcare, 24 years at Hi Desert Medical Center, I retired as the HDMC Interim CEO.  Highlights of my tenure at HDMC included the opportunity to open the Special Additions Family Birthing Center and I oversaw the expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department.
During my 33 years in the high desert, I have enjoyed many levels of community service. I established a Medical Explorer Post and the Every 15 Minutes Program at our high schools drawing attention to the consequences of impaired driving.  I served on the state board of the California Association for Healthcare Quality as a board member and author, at the county level on the San Bernardino County Mental Health Commission and locally as a member of the 29 Palms Rotary. I  served on the  Morongo Unified School Board for 7 years and the Basin Wide Foundation Board of Directors.
Hi Desert Medical Center's mission and success is  central to much of my career and I am proud to serve with my fellow board members to continue our mission into the future.

I have been a resident of the Morongo Basin for 35 years. I live in 29 Palms with my husband Kevin and have raised 3 sons here.  I have been active in the Twentynine Palms Chamber of Commerce, Twentynine Palms Little League, High Desert Youth Football, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
I started my Nursing career at HDMC 16 years ago.  I have worked in most of the departments in the hospital including ICU, Med-surg, and Labor and Delivery.  I'm currently still working full time in my profession as a traveling nurse.
I have been on the Board of Directors since 2010.  My passion is the same today as it was when I first started working at HDMC.  I want to serve the people of my community and insure that quality health care continues in the Morongo Basin.

I have lived in Yucca Valley since 1987. I am married to my husband of thirty years, Gene. We are both Doctors of Chiropractic. We own Swella Chiropractic, Inc. in Yucca Valley. I have two daughters, Meghan (Nick) Norton and Mariya Swella.
I am a native Californian. Attended California State University, Fullerton. Graduated cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa.
I have been actively involved in the community through my church, membership in Soroptimist International of Yucca Valley, Lincoln Club of Morongo Basin, Morongo Basin Republican Club, Umbrella Ministries, and member of the Board of Directors of Hi Desert Memorial Health Care District.

As a 37-year resident of the Morongo Basin, I support and advocate Hi-Desert Medical Center’s mission statement to “provide superior service to improve the quality of life for people in the Morongo Basin.”
I maintain an active interest in community affairs affecting the quality of life for all who live in the Morongo Basin. This healthcare District serves a critical role in our communities and our hospital must continuously strive to provide the highest standards of care.
I’m a graduate of Chaffey College (Alta Loma, CA) with a degree in Law Enforcement and the University of California – Riverside where I specialized in Educational Facilities Planning & Plant Engineering and Risk Management. My career includes law enforcement as an active and reserve police officer, real estate appraising, residential lending and banking administration.  I retired from the Morongo Unified School District in 2009 after serving 15 years as the Director of Facilities Planning & Risk Management.
