HDMC Community Leadership Academy
Hospitals are the cornerstone of every thriving community.  Have you ever wondered what goes on inside your community healthcare District?  Once a year, Hi-Desert Medical Center hosts a six-month leadership academy for community leaders.  Using a monthly lunch-and-learn format, January through June, these informative sessions are hosted by Lionel "Chad" Chadwick, CEO.  Classes include a briefing on timely and informative topics impacting today's community hospitals, and a service-line presentation and tour. 
Community leaders are invited to apply to the academy by submitting a letter of interest including a brief background summary, why you are interested, and state that you understand this is a six month class that you are available to attend each session (held the third Wednesday of each month, January through June, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.).  Send the letter to the attention of Joe Ruddon, marketing department at 6601 White Feather Road, Joshua Tree, CA 92252.  Ten community leaders will be selected to participate in the academy of 2013.
Academy Syllabus:
Overview of the healthcare industry and its challenges.  Discussion includes challenges of industry regulations, physician recruitment and other market force issues.  Presentation by Chad Chadwick, CEO.
An overview of finance issues with an emphasis on cost structures.
The Continuing Care Center: The gem of the Morongo Basin.  The facility is one of the few centers in Southern California providing subacute care - the highest level of care available in the long-term care setting.  A tour of the facility is provided.
A continuing overview of finance issues with an emphasis on revenue and capital.
The Latest Technology, Close to Home: an overview of medical imaging equipment including the MRI.  Discussion about the new CT scanner coming online next fall; a tour follws the presentation.
An overview of HDMC's customer service initiatives and culture change.
A day in the Life of Your Community Emergency Department: the presentation is given by the director of the emergency department; discover if a real emergency room is anything like what we see on television!  A tour of the emergency department follows the presentation.
An overview of quality initatives and the transparency in healthcare (HCAPS, core measures, etc.).
Birth - the Most Precious Gift: experience the Special Additions Family Birthing Center and prenatal education program.  A tour of the birthing center follows the presentation.
The future of HDMC: delve into the HDMC of five, ten or even fifteen years from now.  Presentation includes an overview of architectural renderings, models and future forecasting.  A tour of the ICU, medica/surgical ward and the surgery department follows the presentation.
