Hi-Desert Medical Center Featured Physician

Madhusudhan T. Gupta, M.D., F.A.C.C. was born and raised in India, receiving his early medical training at Osmania Medical College in Hyerabad. After completing his internship and residency at Osmania General Hospital in 1975, he joined its staff as Senior House Physician, with a special interest in Cardiology, both invasive and non-invasive. In 1976, the young doctor came to the United States to continue his studies at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He completed a four year Internship and Residency in Medicine there, with honors. In 1980, through the Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri, he was awarded a two year Cardiology Fellowship at Jewish hospital of St. Louis.

He visited friends in the California desert and liked the arid climate and especially California’s “open lab system.” (This allows physicians granted staff privileges at a particular hospital the use of its special facilities, such as cardiac catheterization and angiography labs.)

In 1982, Dr. Gupta opened offices in both Yucca Valley and Palm Springs, joining the staffs of Hi-Desert Medical Center and Desert Regional Medical Center. Presently, he is on staff at Hi-Desert Medical Center and at Desert Regional Medical Center, Palm Springs.

American Board Certified in Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Cardiovascular Disease, Gupta has been and remains active on numerous hospital committees concerned with cardiology and critical care. A member of seven medical associations, Dr. Gupta attends and sometimes leads workshops related to his specialty. Because of his fine reputation in his field, he is often asked to work as a consultant to research and development departments of large companies that manufacture cardiology equipment.  His field of expertise includes interventional cardiology-coronary angiography, angioplasty and stents.  He also performs permanent pace-maker implantation.

Gupta is good-humored, even philosophical about his chosen profession. “It’s hard to put in word – what I feel sometimes. When I’ve just completed a procedure and I know everything’s going to be okay for that patient – it gives me a `rush’, I guess you’d say!”

He is proud of what has already been accomplished at Hi-Desert Medical Center and is looking forward to continued improvement. He is a strong advocate for the addition of a combined cardiology/radiology lab in order to better serve his hi-desert patients and the community. Dr. Gupta says of Hi-Desert Medical Center, “For a small hospital, it is extremely good. I have committed myself to it – I am personally committed to its quality of care.”
