Imaging & Mammography ServicesHi-Desert Medical Center’s medical imaging services boasts some of the most advanced imaging technologies in the region. Just as important as the technologies is the expertise of the radiologist who interprets the images and provides specialized treatments. For more information about Hi-Desert Medical Center’s medical imaging services, call 760-366-6175. Here is a representation of available imaging services:
- MRI: A state-of-the-art open MRI unit with fixed-site setting to provide superior image quality with 8-channel coils for neurovascular, spine, body and cardiac imaging.
- Nuclear Medicine: Uses low-dose radiopharmaceuticals for imaging.
- Fluoroscopy: Uses x-rays in real time to image the body.

- CT Scanner: Provides layered, computerized x-ray of specific body parts.
- Mammography: Uses low dose x-rays to detect the microscopic changes and abnormalities in breast tissue. Mammography services are provided at the Airway Outpatient Center in Yucca Valley. Call 760-366-6358 to schedule a mammography appointment.
- Bone Densitometry: Uses low dose x-rays to assess the density of bones – an important first step in detecting bone loss and early onset osteoporosis.
- Ultrasound: Provides multi-plane imaging without the use of radiation.
- Arthrogam: The study of a joint space by injection of contrast media directly into the joint space.
- Biopsy: Is performed on almost any area of the body. A sampling of cells is obtained with a hollow needle directed through the skin under CT, Ultrasound or Fluoroscopy guidance to help establish a diagnosis.
- Cyst Aspiration: Removal of fluid or cells from the fluid filled cavity for a diagnosis.
- Fistulogram/Shuntogram: The study of a hemodialysis access to evaluate patency, by injecting contrast through a catheter placed directly into a fistula/shunt.
- Myelogram: Injection of contrast media directly into the cerebrospinal fluid space to evaluate for ruptured discs, spinal cord abnormalities and other injuries or diseases of the spinal cord.
- Pulmonary Angiography: The study of the pulmonary arteries and to diagnose pulmonary emboli.
- Spinal Puncture: Direct puncture into the cerebrospinal fluid for laboratory analysis to assist in diagnosis of conditions related to the spine and nervous system. Interventional/Special Procedures
- Joint Injections: Injection of lidocaine and/or a steroid into a joint space for temporary relief of pain and inflammation

- Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC): Placement of a catheter into the central circulation from a puncture site in the arm, to deliver long-term intravenous medications/fluids.
- Percutaneous Drainage Catheter Placement (nephrostomy, biliary, abscess): Placement of a temporary or permanent catheter into a cavity to drain fluid collection.
Coming fall 2010:

In its ongoing commitment to provide the best medical care to the community, Hi-Desert Medical Center has announced the acquisition of the Aquilion 64 multi-detector row computed tomography (CT) scanner from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. The Aquilion 64 is the most advanced 64-detector row CT scanner available and represents the leading edge in medical technology. Aquilion 64 detector row CT delivers high-speed, high resolution imaging, which allows physicians to capture precise images of any area of the body, including the heart and lungs. With the fastest scanning capability in the market, the system allows important diagnostic information concerning the heart to be obtained within a single breath hol
