March 14, 2011
Hi-Desert Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Lionel "Chad" Chadwick, PhD., was appointed to the County of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Board (WIB). Nominated by Third District Supervisor Neil Derry, Dr. Chadwick is the first WIB representative for the Morongo Basin.

Founded by the Department of Labor, the WIB oversees training and support programs that build on the County's workforce and supports local enterprise.  According to their mission statement, "The County of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Board develops and promotes economic and employment opportunities for businesses, employees and job seekers by understanding emerging economic trends, listenting to employers, creating partnerships and providing services in a caring manner."

The County of San Bernardino Department of Workforce Development operates programs under the direction of the Workforce Investment Board, through funding from the Department of Labor's Workforce Employment Resource Centers in San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, and Hesperia.  Services provided by these centers include counseling, job search, skills assessment and occupational training.  Clients have access to computers, internet and other office machines.  Businesses benefit from access to a large pool of pre-screened job applicants and other resources.

"I am pleased and privileged to be nominated by Supervisor Derry and appointed by the San Bernardino County Supervisors to represent the Morongo Basin as we continue the WIB's important work of promoting a strong workforce development system in our County," said Dr. Chadwick.  "I am particularly interested in skill development and local training to bring jobs to the Morongo Basin."

Board meetings occur monthly in San Bernardino.  For more information about the Workforce Investment Board, call 800/451-5627, or contact Dr. Chadwick at 760/366-6260.
