Hi-Desert Medical Center Foundation

Martie Avels Nursing Scholarship Fund
The Foundation has responded to the nationwide and local nursing shortage by creating the Martie Avels Nursing Scholarship Fund (MANS).  This program pays the expenses of qualified students who are accepted into nursing education programs at Copper Mountain College in exchange to committing to work at Hi-Desert Medical Center after graduation.  By developing our nursing staff using local students, we address the nursing shortage, nursing staff retention, and the budgetary impact of registry nursing fees and wages.

The MANS program has funded $60,000 in scholarships to 14 nurses last year.  19 MANS recipient nurses have been employed by Hi-Desert Medical Center.  Funding is relevant to the fiscal requirements of each specific degree and needs of Hi-Desert Medical Center.

Special Additions Birthing Center
The Foundation supports the Special Additions Birthing Center by providing $10,000 to purchase car seats, new baby layettes and new mother educational incentives.  Our commitment to assisting Hi-Desert Medical Center in providing quality healthcare to the Morongo Basin starts with our newest community members.

Emergency Assistance to HI-DESERT MEDICAL CENTER Employees
The HI-DESERT MEDICAL CENTER family is not immune to catastrophe.  During the last year, the Foundation has distributed more than $12,000 to employees for emergency assistance.  The funds are provided by Hi-Desert Medical Center family members’ participation in the 30-Minute Payroll Giving Club.  Employees participating in the 30-Minute Club donate, through payroll deduction, one half hour of their wages every pay period to be used for employee emergency assistance and towards the growth and expansion of Hi-Desert Medical Center.  More than 130 employees have committed to the program which the Foundation administers.

The Challenge
As our dynamic community changes and grows, the Hi-Desert Medical Center Foundation is faced with the challenges that are part of that change.  Our facilities, staff and equipment must advance and expand as our needs and medical technologies change.  Yet the reality is that hospitals across this country are in crisis.

Now more than ever, we need your help.  It is only through your generosity that we can support our healthcare district as it meets these challenges and continues to provide superior service to improve the quality of life for the people of the Morongo Basin.  Won’t you please take a moment to make a tax deductible contribution to the future of quality healthcare in the Morongo Basin?
