What
To Bring
|
We
are happy to provide you with the essentials
you will need during your stay. However, you
may wish to bring your own bathrobe, slippers,
undergarment and some favorite toiletries. Please
do not bring or wear colognes or perfumes during
your stay at the hospital. For the safety of
everyone, personal electrical appliances such
as hair dryers, radios and electric razors are
not allowed. There is no need to bring any medications
with you unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Your doctor will give our pharmacy careful instruction
about your prescription requirements. If you
do have medications with you, be sure to give
them to your nurse as soon as you arrive in your
room. If possible, bring to the hospital a list
of medications and dosages you are presently
taking.

About
Valuables
|
It
is a good idea to leave valuables (jewelry, credit
cards, and cash) at home or send them home with
your family. If you wear dentures or contact
lenses, please be sure to bring an appropriate
container as these items can be easily lost or
misplaced. Hi-Desert Medical Center is not responsible
for the loss or breakage of personal items.
|
Physicians
|
You
have been admitted to Hi-Desert Medical Center
for physicians’ services, nursing and
ancillary care. Your admitting doctor directs
your treatment and may ask other doctors to see
you. Your admitting physician is responsible
for directing your care while you are here. If
you have questions about your care, your doctor
should be consulted.
|
Nurses
|
A
team of professional registered nurses, licensed
vocational nurses, nursing assistants and technicians
provide around-the-clock nursing care. In addition
to a nursing supervisor who is available 24 hours-a-day,
a nursing director coordinates nursing care.
Nurses will answer your questions and help you
understand your care. If you wish to have 1:1
nursing care or a sitter at your bedside, you
may employ an independent healthcare provider.
|
Dieticians
|
A
registered dietician may meet with you to ensure
that you understand your nutritional requirements
and dietary limitations both during your stay
and after you return home. If you have any questions
about your diet, please call (760) 366-6140
ext. 140.
|
Chaplains
|
Chaplains
are available to provide pastoral care for you
and your family. For chaplain assistance, please
ask your nurse, who will notify the chaplain
on call.
|
Discharge Planning
|
Your
healthcare team provides assistance in determining
and arranging for your aftercare needs.
If you
have concerns, address them with your physician
or nurse. The social work staff can also be
of
assistance.
|
Patient
Representative
|
Hi-Desert
Medical Center has a patient representative who
serves as an advocate for your
health care needs.
The patient representative can help you with
questions, problems, concerns
or suggestions
about the care you are receiving. If you wish
to speak with the patient
representative, please call (760) 366-6428
ext. 428.

Other
Members of Your Healthcare Team
|
You
may see other members of your healthcare team
who perform tests and procedures that your doctor
has ordered. These may include respiratory therapists,
pharmacists, people who draw blood (phlebotomists),
physical therapists, X-ray technicians, and others.
There are many other members of the medical center
staff who are here to make your stay safe and
pleasant. They work in areas such as dietary,
security, admitting, the business office, housekeeping
and maintenance. Students may comprise part of
your healthcare team. They receive extensive
education and practice prior to being allowing
to serve patients, and are always supervised
closely by an instructor or our staff.
