Community Support Services

Cooling Station

Cooling stations are air-conditioned facilities where local residents may go for temporary relief from extreme heat. The Hi-Desert Medical Center’s Desert Breeze Cafe (in the main hospital building) serves as a "cooling station" for the Morongo Basin in the event of excessive heat or should the area experience power outages during the summer.

Find a Doctor Referral Service

Our free “Doctor Directory” referral service helps community members find the medical care they need. We have more than 100 doctors listed in over 20 medical specialties. Simply call (760) 366-6182 This resource is available to you 24/7. You may also use our online doctor search tool.

Nursing Programs

Through our partnership with Copper Mountain College, Hi-Desert Medical Center hosts nursing students in the acute care and long-term care settings as part of their curriculum.

Community Partnerships

Hi-Desert Medical Center has partnered with other community agencies to promote the health and well-being of those we serve.

Joshua Basin Water District

Hi-Desert Medical Center partnered with Joshua Basin Water District (JBWD) to construct the first waste water treatment plant in the Morongo Basin. The community benefits from the elimination of nitrates building up in the soil that filters into the watershed.

Joshua Tree National Park

Hi-Desert Medical Center physicians participate in quarterly "Ranger/Doctor Hikes" which were developed for members of our community to stay active and enjoy education about safety and how to maximize the resources of our own backyard—Joshua Tree National Park!. These free guided hikes are led by a park ranger and an HDMC physician.

Hi-Desert Cultural Center

The Hi-Desert Medical Center and Hi-Desert Cultural Center host quarterly opening receptions for the Medical Center’s art exhibits that feature fine art from area artists in their rotating galleries located on the hospital campus.

Our quarterly public receptions for 2016 will be available after September 15th. Call (760) 366-6322 for more information. These public art receptions will be held in the main hospital lobby and refreshments will be provided.

In the spirit of community partnering, the hospital galleries are curated by the artists of the Hi-Desert Cultural Center. All artwork is available for sale with a portion of proceeds from the sales directly benefiting the Morongo Basin Healthcare District Foundation and Hi-Desert Cultural Center. All art and sculpture is available for purchase online.

Morongo Unified School District

Hi-Desert Medical Center has partnered with Morongo Unified School District (MUSD) over the years for many community-based programs. These have included:

  • Every 15-Minutes Program. This state-funded program for high schools aims to reduce drunk driving. Once a year, Hi-Desert Medical Center hosts a high school team to work with the emergency doctors and staff to videotape footage for the local campaign.
  • Covered California Insurance Exchange. Hi-Desert Medical Center partnered with MUSD to provide information to students' families about the opportunity to secure health insurance through the Covered California program.
